Deve Gowda staunch follower Channigappa decides to quit JD(S)

Bangalore, Aug 21 (UNI) Senior Janata Dal (Secular) leader Channigappa today annonced his decision to quit the party and join the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.

Talking to newsmen at his residence in Tymagondala, in the outskirts of the City, the former Minister and stanch follower of former Prime Minister and JD(S) President H D Deve Gowda, coming down heavily on the functioning of the party (JD-S) said that " he was disgusted over the way the party was handled by Father and sons and hence I have decided to quit and join the ruling BJP party." However, Mr Channigappa has not decided the date for joining BJP.

Allahabad, Aug 21 (UNI) The second nominated division bench of the Allahabad High Court today declined to hear the writ petition challenging the recent appointment of a sitting Allahabad High Court justice Satish Chandra. The bench comprising Janardan Sahay and Rakesh Sharma today declined to hear the writ and forwarded it to the Chief Justice. 2 Policemen raped Dalit woman, probe initiated

Mainpuri, Aug 21 (UNI) An official probe was ordered today against two police constables for allegedly outraging the modesty of a Dalit woman in Bebar Prakhand area here on Tuesday. The victim has been sent for medical examination, besides inquiry being initiated against the accused, SSP Krapa Shankar said. Staircase to Bandra skywalk opened

Mumbai, Aug 21 (UNI) The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) today opened a staircase to 1.3 km-long skywalk, connecting the Bandra railway foot overbridges (FOB) to Kalanagar, at Anant Kanekar Marg in suburban Bandra, thus making the commute easier for the pedestrians to the railway station. Dhar, MP, Aug 21 (UNI) A total of 566 activists belonging to the BJP and other Hindu outfits courted arrest here today over the Amarnath land row in Kashmir. Earlier, agitators took out a rally and shouted slogans in protest against revoking of land allotted to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board.
