CPI(M) stir against Congress MLA lands

Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, Aug 21 (UNI) The CPI(M) would file a petition in the High Court, seeking repealing of GO 891 that provides for ''alienating the government lands situated in Chollangi village of Tallarevu mandal to Congress MLA Vatti Vasanthakumar''.

Addressing a press conference here today, state party committee secretary B Venkat said the party would launch a stir, enlisting the support of all the political parties and organisations, against the ''government action in alienating the government land to the Congress MLA'' in violation of the High Court orders and the Land Ceiling Act.

Alleging that the government had issued the GO, ''exclusively for the purpose of alienating the lands to Mr Vasanthakumar'', he claimed that on paper, these lands were shown as resumed by the district collector under the Land Assignment Act of 1977, but in practice it continues to be under the MLA's occupation.

Since the government has violated all the provisions of the Assignment Act and shown ''utter disregard'' to the High Court's order, they would approach the court, he added.

He further said that the party would request the SC/ST Commission to stop transferring of lands to others that are otherwise to be assigned to the Dalits.

He appealed to Governor N D Tiwari to intervene and restore the lands to the Dalits instead of the Congress MLA.
