Congressmen take pledge to strengthen the party

Patna, Aug 21 (UNI) Congress leaders and workers today took pledge to stregthen the party for regaining its past glory on the occasion of Sankalp Diwas, organised to mark the 64th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

Several senior leaders, including Union Ministers Subodh Kant Sahay and Shakeel Ahmad, besides a host of other prominent leaders and thousands of party workers took pledge on the occasion.

Addressing the function, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Shakeel Ahmad exhorted the party workers to work for strengthening the organisation in accordance with ideals and vision of the Rajiv Gandhi.

During his tenure as Prime Minister, Mr Gandhi had initiated several steps for strngthening the Panchayati Raj system and empowerment of women, he added.

Mr Gandhi had emphasised on imparting quality education to students in science and technology faculty, he said.

Mr Ahmad recalled that the former Prime Minister had also taken several steps to check the rampant corruption in government machinery to execute the welfare schemes effectively.

Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister of State for food processing Subodh Kant Sahay said the Congress workers should strive hard to strenghten the party in Bihar and bring back its past glory.

Among others, who spoke on the occasion, were former Union Ministers K K Tiwari and Jagdish Tytler, newly appointed president of Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee(BPCC) Anil Kumar Sharma and former president of BPCC Sadanand Singh.

Security stepped up at Dwarkadhish Temple ahead of Janmashtami

Dwarka (Gujarat), August 21 : Gujarat police have tightened up security at the revered Dwarkadhish temple ahead of Janmashtami, the birthday of the Hindu god, lord Krishna. Lord Krishna is believed to have lived in Dwarka and the people in this ancient city exhibit a certain sense of belongingness to the deity. Gang of bike lifters busted, 19 bikes recovered

Chandigarh Augt 21 (UNI) The Haryana Police has busted a gang of motorcycle lifters resulting in the recovery of 19 motorcycles in Karnal. Two members of the gang namely Sandeep alias Sonu and Rinku alias Kala, residents of Gharaunda, were arrested and during interrogation they confessed to have committed theft of 11 motorcycles, out of which 6 motorcycles had been recovered. Further investigation was in progress and the accused were on police remand till.....

HC issues notice to Centre on Pak prisoners issue

Chandigarh, Aug 21 (UNI) Punjab and Haryana High Court today directed the Union Home Ministry and the External Affairs Ministry to file in four weeks time their final version explaining the delay in repatriating those Pakistani prisoners who have already completed the sentence awarded to them by the competent courts. The division bench of Chief Justice TS Thakur and Justice Surya Kant gave the orders in response to a PIL filed by World Human Rights Protection.....
