Congress initiates action against Anand

New Delhi, Aug 21 (UNI) The Congress today said it had initiated disciplinary action against senior Party leader and former Rajya Sabha member R K Anand who was convicted by the Delhi High Court for obstruction of justice in the BMW hit-and-run case.

''It is a serious charge,'' AICC Spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan told mediapersons, while adding that the matter has been referred to the AICC Disciplinary Action Committee.

''We have taken note of it...The Disciplinary Action Committee will take a view of it,'' she said.

Mr Anand, a senior criminal lawyer, and another senior advocate I U Khan were today found guilty of criminal contempt of court and obstruction of justice by the Delhi High Court in the BMW hit-and-run case following a sting operation by a private television channel.

Both of them were barred from appearing in the High Court and other subordinate courts for four months and fined Rs 2,000 each.

Gang of bike lifters busted, 19 bikes recovered

Chandigarh Augt 21 (UNI) The Haryana Police has busted a gang of motorcycle lifters resulting in the recovery of 19 motorcycles in Karnal. Two members of the gang namely Sandeep alias Sonu and Rinku alias Kala, residents of Gharaunda, were arrested and during interrogation they confessed to have committed theft of 11 motorcycles, out of which 6 motorcycles had been recovered. HC issues notice to Centre on Pak prisoners issue

Chandigarh, Aug 21 (UNI) Punjab and Haryana High Court today directed the Union Home Ministry and the External Affairs Ministry to file in four weeks time their final version explaining the delay in repatriating those Pakistani prisoners who have already completed the sentence awarded to them by the competent courts. The division bench of Chief Justice TS Thakur and Justice Surya Kant gave the orders in response to a PIL filed by World Human Rights Protection.....

Rising number of dengue, malaria cases this year: MCD

New Delhi, Aug 21 (UNI) Expressing concern over the rising number of malaria and dengue cases, acting Mayor and Chairman of MCD Malaria Committee Divya Jaiswal today said this year 61 cases of malaria and 18 cases of dengue have been reported in the Capital.
