Cong committed to welfare of weaker sections: Alva

Kurukshetra, Aug 21 (UNI) AICC General Secretary Margaret Alva today said the Congress was the only party in the country which was committed to protection of the interests of the weaker sections of the society.

''All opposition parties make false promises near the elections and thereafter they disappear. Congress is the only party which implements its programmes and policies to safeguard the interests of weaker sections of the society,'' she said while addressing a conference of workers of the Congress of Ambala and Kurukshetra parliamentary constituencies here.

She directed the Congress MLAs to remain present in the party office once a week to redress the grievances of the workers.

She also said that a grievances redressal cell be constituted for workers at district level and the functioning of the cell should be monitored.

Ms Alva said the chairmen of various boards and corporations in the state would be appointed within a week.

Union Minister of Urban Employment and Poverty Alleviation Selja said that AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi had launched a programme known as 'Aam Admi Ke Sipahi' in the country. She urged the workers to work for the success of this programme.

Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, MP Naveen Jindal and HPCC President Phool Chand Mullana, Working HPCC President Kuldeep Sharma were among others who spoke on the occasion.

Nitish govt failed to control flood situation in Bihar:Jayprakash

Governor tours flood-hit areas of Midnapore
