CM keen to bring more higher educational institutes: Minister

Tiruchirapalli, Aug 21 (UNI) State Transport Minister, K N Nehru today said the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi was very keen on bringing more and more Central Government's higher educational institutes like IIM, IIT to Tamil Nadu.

After inagurating a Hall mark Business School (HBS) here, Mr Nehru said following the efforts of Mr Karunanidhi, Tiruchirapalli, Tiruvarur and Coimbatore would also have such higher educational institutes soon.

He called upon the private educational institutions to give joint hands to the government efforts to provide qualitative education to the needy of Tamil Nadu.

HBS Chairman R Krishnamurthy in his address claimed that out of total intake of 60 students, almost all the seats have been filled up and they are planning to develop HBS as a full fledged residential school within a couple of years.

Eight killed, two injured in Maoist encounter in south Bihar

Gaya, Aug 21 (UNI) At least eight people, including six Special Auxiliary Police(SAP) personnel, were killed and two others injured in an encounter with the Maoist guerrillas near Raniganj Bazar in this extremist-dominated south Bihar district today. District Superintendent of Police Paresh Saxena said while four SAP jawans died on the spot, two more succumbed to their injuries later in the district hospital here. The condition of two other injured jawans was also stated.....

India condemns Algeria terror attack, calls for global fight

New Delhi, Aug 21 (UNI) India today strongly condemned the ''repugnant'' act of terrorism in Algeria on tuesday, and reaffirmed the demand for global cooperation to counter the scourge with resolve and resilience. In a statement, the External Affairs Ministry said the terrorist attack in the Algerian town of Issers, which killed dozens of people, clearly exposed the grave threat that terrorism presented to the security of nations. No cause and no grievance could ever.....

Smooth movement of goods between Jammu and Kashmir

New Delhi, Aug 21 (UNI) The government today said it was keeping a close watch on the law and order situation in Jammu and Kashmir while ensuring that supplies within the state went on uninterrupted. Untill 1400 hrs 970 trucks carrying essential commodities had moved from Jammu to Kashmir, said the government adding that of these 343 were of food grains, 128 of meat and 188 of fuel and petroleum products. Similarly, 1,033 trucks moved from Srinagar.....
