Case filed against Commanding Officer on ex-councillor issue

Tiruchirapalli, Aug 21 (UNI) Police registered a case against the Commanding Officer of 117 Infantry Battalion, (Territorial Army), the Guards, Tiruchirapalli Colonel C P Medappa and five Territorial Army (TA) soldiers in connection with the alleged detention of former DMK Corporation Councillor S Selvam in the training area of the TA here on August 19.

Police said the case was registered, on a complaint lodged by Mr Selvam, under sections 147 (rioting), 342 (wrongful confinement), 323 (causing hurt), 324 (causing hurt by dangerous weapon) and 506(ii) (criminal intimidation and threat to cause death or grievous hurt).

Mr Selvam alleged that when he along with with Corporation officials were attending a repair work on the drinking water pipeline, the TA personnel quarrelled with him, dragged him and wrongfully confined him in their campus and assaulted him.

Police also registered a case against Mr Selvam on a complaint from an Army Officer under Section 447 (criminal tresspass) and 427 (mischief).

Meanwhile, in a statement issued here yesterday, Colonel E S Sathyanesan, Station Staff Officer, Station Headquarters, here alleged that Mr Selvam had caused damage to the public road, opposite to the access road for the training area.

Mr Selvam was disturbing the tranquility of the area by engaging an earthmover."There was neither any pipeline being repaired nor Mr Selvam was manhandled or beaten up as claimed. "On the contrary, he threatened the military authorities." Col Sathyanesan claimed.

Man arrested for holding fake passport

Tiruchirapalli, Aug 21: Airport Police arrested a 36-year-old man for attempting to fly to Dubai with a fake passport at the International Airport here on Thursday, Aug 21. Police said the passenger U Vasu, hailing from Nochikulam village in Perambalur District of Tamil Nadu, was nabbed by the Immigration authorities, when they found that his travel documents was fake. Later, Mr Vasu was handed over to the local police, who arrested and remanded him to judicial custody. UNI.....

Top Cop told to execute NBW against businessman

Chennai, Aug 21 (UNI) The Madras High Court has directed the Chennai City Police Commissioner to nominate an Assistant Commissioner of Police to execute a Non-Bailable Warrant (NBW) issued by a Magistrate in Saidapet, against businessman Jhunjhunwala, who had allegedly cheated and misappropriated Rs 18 crore. Justice K N Basha gave the direction while passing orders on a criminal original petition from the affected person G Moorthy, who prayed for a direction to the Inspector.....
