BSY urges cooperatives to take up awareness programmes

Bangalore, Aug 21 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa today asked Souharda Cooperatives Societies, set to become financial super markets, to create awareness about share markets among rural public.

Addressing a state level conferance of the Souharda Cooperatives Societies here he appreciated their forey into capital market services and said such awareness pogrammes would help the people, particularly in rural areas to purchase shares.

He said his government was committed to bridge the gap between the urban and the rural areas with developement of infrastructuree facilities like airports at district level in the next two years.

Chairman of the Societies Manohar Maksi said more than 1000 societies had provided credit facilities in the last seven years. From today atleast 20 societies would go online for providing the financial services.

He said atleast 500 societies were expected to provide the capital market services, non-life insurance, products and mutual fund schemes to its 2.75 lakh members in the next five years.

Governor tours flood-hit areas of Midnapore

No reduction in foodgrains quota for Kashmir: FCI

Srinagar, Aug 21 (UNI) The Food Corporation of India (FCI) has denied any reduction in the foodgrains quota for the Kashmir Valley.
