JK: Ban on posters, checks on market

Srinagar, Aug 21: The District Election Officer (DEO), Bandipora, has banned pasting of posters and paintings on walls in the district in the view of upcoming elections in the state.

The district administration of Bandipora is the first among all districts of Jammu and Kashmir to set up a control room to strictly enforce the market checking after the normal business activities resumed in the valley after several days strike.

Official sources said today that DEO had asked sectoral heads of the district to ensure that no notices, posters were pasted and no paintings were made on the walls of government or private buildings, Panchayat ghars, schools by any political candidate or party during electioneering so that public property was not defaced.

He has directed the sectoral officers to take due care in this regard.

Recently Tehsildar Bandipora checked rate lists of 106 shopkeepers of the town and destroyed about three quintals of rotten vegetables and other food items.

A Control Room has also been set up in Deputy Commissioner's office to address consumer's grievances.
