"Assess People" designs services to assist students

Chennai, Aug 21 (UNI) To address the issue of massive shortage of skilled workforce in India, ''Assess People'', which offers workforce assessment services to individuals and business enterprise, has designed a set of services to help students make informed choices at high school, gradution and job seeking stages.

Talking to newspersons here today, Assess People CEO R Kannan and Director Arup Varma said with the advent of technological development the choice of careers have increased to varied fields, which were new and might not be known to students and parents.

Assess People, which had pioneered the concept on online career planning, had launched ''Careerwise'', aimed at helping high school students understand their areas of strong inerests more clearly.

It has also designed ''Careersmart'' to help students prepare for the job. ''It is an interactive web enabled programme that has a range of services, including a series of aptitude tests, an interview manager with a complete interview guide'', Mr Kannan said.

He said Careersmart also has a resume builder sector that provides a custom-designed engine to build a resume and a section for students to assess their english language proficiency.

Quoting recent findings, he said India was facign a massive shortage of skilled workforce, with just a quarter of graduates employable.

''Eighty per cent of job seekers are without any professional skills'', he said and added that the workforce issue was both a paradox and a challenge.

IGI to get third terminal by 2010 with Rs 9,000 cr capex

New Delhi, Aug 21 (UNI) The Union Cabinet today okayed setting up of a National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute and a bioprocessing unit in Knowledge City at Mohali in Punjab at a cost of Rs 380 crore by 2012-13. "Both will be autonomous institutions under the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology," Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi told reporters after the cabinet meeting.
