AP Govt to bear total interest on housing loans of poor: CM

Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, Aug 21 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today said the state government had decided to bear the entire interest portion on the 'Indiramma housing' loans in rural areas and 'Rajiv Gruhakalpa' in urban areas.

Addressing a press conference at Rajahmundry, he said the decision was taken keeping in view the hardships faced by the beneficiaries for repaying the loan.

''Now the government itself would bear the total interest portion while the beneficiaries would pay only the loan amount in easy instalments of Rs 300 per month in rural areas and Rs 500 in case of the urban areas.

The loan repayment period was seven years after which the beneficiaries would become the proud owners of their houses,'' he said and hoped that it would give much relief to the beneficiaries.

Claiming that the government was passionate towards effectively implementing the welfare schemes during the last four and a half years, Dr Reddy said the ''pro-farmer, pro-poor'' policies, aimed at all-round development of the state, would be pursued with more commitment.

Assuring early implementation of the Rajiv Arogya Mithra scheme to the journalists, the Chief Minister said the modalities were being worked out and as a policy, it is restricted to accredited journalists only. However, he assured liberal granting of accreditation facility to journalists.
