Airport to be reopened for visitors from tonight

Chennai, Aug 21 (UNI) Chennai Domestic and International Airport would be re-opened for visitors from tonight.

Airport sources said the airport was closed for the visitors from August six to strengthen the security in view of the Independence Day celebrations.

Last night, an unclaimed bag was found at the airport premises. A Bomb Disposal Detection Squad (BDDS), which checked the bag found that it contained only foreign chocolates and biscuits, the sources added.

Cabinet clears New Land Records Modernisation Programme

New Delhi, Aug 21 (UNI) A new Centrally-sponsored National Land Records Modernisation Programme (NLRMP) will replace two related schemes and will be implemented in select districts on a pilot basis at a cost of Rs 400 crore before being expanded to cover the entire country in eight years, the Cabinet decided today. IGI to get third terminal by 2010 with Rs 9,000 cr capex

New Delhi, Aug 21 (UNI) With the Commonwealth Games drawing closer, the Indira Gandhi International Airport will get a third terminal with the government announcing a capex of Rs 9,000 crore for it. ''The third terminal will be ready by 2010. We would like optimal usage of the terminal. We will discuss the matter with the ATC and decide whether the terminal would be used for domestic or international traffic,'' Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel said.....

Mohali gets Biotech institute, bioprocessing unit

New Delhi, Aug 21 (UNI) The Union Cabinet today okayed setting up of a National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute and a bioprocessing unit in Knowledge City at Mohali in Punjab at a cost of Rs 380 crore by 2012-13. "Both will be autonomous institutions under the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology," Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi told reporters after the cabinet meeting.
