2nd HC bench declines to hear petition against Chandra's appointment

Allahabad, Aug 21 (UNI) The second nominated division bench of the Allahabad High Court today declined to hear the writ petition challenging the recent appointment of a sitting Allahabad High Court justice Satish Chandra.

The bench comprising Janardan Sahay and Rakesh Sharma today declined to hear the writ and forwarded it to the Chief Justice.

Yesterday, the bench comprising Justices Yatindra Singh and S K Gupta had also released the case.

A high court lawyer M C Gupta had filed the writ petition, challenging the recent appointment of Justice Satish Chandra.

According to the petition, Justice Chandra lacked the basic eligibility and qualification for being a judge in the high court.

Now, the Chief Justice will nominate third bench to hear the writ petition.

Justise Chandra was appointed as the high court judge on August six this year.

566 activists court arrest over Amarnath land row

Dhar, MP, Aug 21 (UNI) A total of 566 activists belonging to the BJP and other Hindu outfits courted arrest here today over the Amarnath land row in Kashmir. Earlier, agitators took out a rally and shouted slogans in protest against revoking of land allotted to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board. Hyderabad, Aug 21 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) today cautioned the journalists in the city about a self styled housing society, which had invited applications from journalists for house sites. Widespread support to VHP's 'jail bharo' which passes off peacefully

New Delhi, Aug 21 (UNI) Claiming ''massive success'' in today's 'jail bharo' programme, the VHP said nearly nine lakh people all over the country courted arrest to support those agitating in Jammu for restoration of land to the Sri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) that would facilitate pilgrims during the annual 'Amarnath Yatra'. Talking to UNI, VHP general secertary Pravin Togadia said court arrest by nearly nine lakh people, including nearly 50,000 in Delhi alone, was historic.....
