Dawn Emily Griggs, 59, was found murdered, barely a km away from the main terminal of IGI Airport, within hours of landing in the capital on March 17, 2004. She had hired a pre-paid taxi around 0200 hrs to go to Brahamkumari Centre in Central Delhi.
With an intention to rob her, the taxi driver, Jyotish Prasad, and his accomplice Ashish Kumar took her away to an isolated spot. When she protested, they allegedly raped her repeatedly and stabbed on her face and eyes with a screwdriver.
Additional Sessions Judge Vinod Kumar has already convicted Prasad and Ashish under sections 302 (murder), 376 (rape), 394 (voluntarily hurting while committing robbery ) and 201 (destruction of evidence) with 120(b) (criminal conspiracy) of IPC.
The Judge, after hearing the arguments from the prosecution and the defence, awarded death sentence to the duo.
