M S Shanmugam appointed as Thanjavur Collector

Chennai, Aug 8 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu government today transferred Mr M S Shanmugam, Deputy Secretary to Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, and posted him as Collector of Thanjavur District.

An official release here said Mr Shanmugam would replace Mr Vijayaraj Kumar, who has been deputed for training abroad.

The orders regarding the posting of a successor to Mr Shanmugam would be issued separately, the release said.

Bihar: 3 killed in train-tractor collision

Khagaria, Aug 8: At least three people were killed and one was seriously injured when a passenger train collided with a tractor near Sikania Dhala crossing of Barauni-Katihar rail division under East Central Railway (ECR) today. Railway sources said the Down Intercity Express, travelling from Danapur to Saharsa, collided with the tractor when the ill-fated vehicle was crossing the tracks near Sikania Dhala. New Delhi, Aug 8 (UNI) The Union Government today regretted that certain State Governments were not utilising the funds allocated for infrastucture development, notwithstanding the high priority that the Centre is giving to these projects. Srinagar, Aug 8 (UNI) Chairmen of both the factions of the Hurriyat Conference (HC) and five other senior separatist leaders were put under house-arrest in the Kashmir valley.
