Bomb squad defuses live bomb near Forum Mall in city

Bangalore, Jul 26 (UNI) A live bomb found near a Forum Mall in Koramangala area was defused in the presence of the public by a bomb squad team here this morning.

Talking to mediapersons here, Police Commissioner Shankar M Bidari said passersby, who noticed the object immediately reported the matter to the police and the bomb defusal squad was summoned.

Within minutes the bomb was deactivated and efforts were on to trace the miscreants, he added.

Mr Bidari said around 1045 hrs, a youth in his 20s, wearing a red shirt, placed the bomb on a footpath and ran away. The materials found in the object were a microchip, explosive materials, a detonator and oil. The object looked similar to those used by miscreants yesterday, he added.

The object caused panic among the public, who gathered at a distance when the squad deactivated it.

Traffic on the Bengaluru-Hosur Highway, was diverted as a precautionary measure, he added.
