Heavy rain lashes Bihar, Patna still waterlogged

Patna, Jul 20 (UNI) Incessant rain for the past few days has left several areas waterlogged in Patna and elsewhere in Bihar, while several major rivers were in spate causing fresh worries to the administration.

Official sources said here today that as a result of continuous downpour since Friday evening, the threat of a flash flood was now looming large over several north and south Bihar distircts as several major rivers in the state had crossed the danger mark.

Among the major rivers now in spate were the Kosi, Bagmati and Punpun. All these rivers were maintaining a rising trend following heavy rain in the catchment areas.

The rising water levels of the rivers were threatening breach in the embankments and the administration was keeping a close vigil on the situation.

Meanwhile, heavy downpour since Friday evening marooned several fresh low-lying areas of the state capital, while the woes of thousands of residents of already affected areas had been augmented with no sign of the accumulated knee-deep water receding.

The local Met office recorded more than 56 mm rainfall during the past 24 hours which led to further waterlogging thereby frustrating all efforts of the Patna Municipal Corporation to pump out the water.

Today's state capital's maximum temperature was recorded at 29.6 degree Celsius and the minimum was pegged at 25.4 degree.

The sky would remain overcast with possibility of heavy to very heavy rain in several areas during the next 24 hours, predicted local weathermen.
