The Joint Action Committee (JAC), formed against the killing of Langpoklakpam Bimolchandra of Haobam Marak Ngangom Leikai, allegedly by Imphal west police commandos on July 4, had called the 'bandh'.
The JAC said the bandh will continue till midnight tonight.
Mr Bimolchandra, also a relative of state Education Minister L Jayentakumar, was allegedly killed after he was arrested by police.
The JAC demanded that the Armed Forces Special Powers Act 58 (AFSPA) be repealed and extrajudicial executions should be stopped.
Meanwhile, following the strike, all inter and intra-state bus services were stopped and shops remained closed.
All educational institutions, however, remained open as the JAC announced that it will not disturb the institutes.
'Bandh' supporters blocked the roads using burnt tyres and wood.
