Defence Minister collapses at NDA parade

Pune, May 31: Defence Minister A K Antony collapsed while reviewing the Passing Out Parade (POP) of the 114th batch of the National Defence Academy (NDA) here this morning. The Minister had just completed his speech exhorting the cadets to dedicate themselves to the nation and promise a materially better life. He asked them to uphold the highest traditions of the defence services. Mr Antony was taken away for medical treatment after he had the fainting bout.

Chennai, June 26: AIADMK supremo and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today took exception to the docking of the world's largest nuclear-powered aircraft carrier 'USS Nimitz' at the Chennai port and urged the Centre not to give permission to it. In a statement here, she said the Centre should give up its plans to dock 'USS Nimitz' in India's territorial waters forthwith as it would be hazardous to the people of proximate cities......

Electronic media must play a greater role: Antony

New Delhi, June 20: Defence Minister A K Antony today said the electronic media had emerged as the most powerful communication tool in the country, and asked private television channels to play a ''greater'' role in the emerging socio-economic scenario.He was inaugurating the National Bureau and the studio of "Jaihind TV," a Malayalam channel sponsored by the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), at the YWCA complex here.Mr Antony said there were still space for more new channels......
