The Lok Adalat will be organised in the court at 1000 hrs and Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan will be Chief Guest.
The cases will be heard before the two benches of Lok Adalat one headed by the Chief Justice himself and the other headed by Justice Ashok Bhan.
The Supreme Court has been in the forefront in encouraging the Lok Adalat movement for amicable out-of-court settlement of disputes.
High Courts as well as district courts of various states have also been organising such Lok Adalats from time to time.
In a Lok Adalat the disputes are settled with mutual consent of the parties involved and a Lok Adalat cannot settle any dispute if either of the parties refuse to give consent for the settlement.
This is a step to reduce the backlog of the already overburdened courts in the country. For instance, the district courts of the country have over 2.5 crore cases pending.
