Amreli, May 2 (UNI) Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has called upon farmers of the region to use latest technologies in their farming practices that would result in higher production of all major crops.

Addressing the farmers sammelan last evening, after inaugurating eight events here, including regional drugs storage house and Trauma centre, on the occasion of ''Gaurav Divas'', the Chief Minister said with changing times, the farmers should leave the use of old and traditional techniques of farming and start using newer technologies, like drip irrigation method, for maximum yield of crops.

The Chief Minister also suggested that the farmers to establish ''Animal Hostel'' and ''dung bank'' in the villages, for fuel and energy purpose. Mr Modi also advised the farmers to grow maximum trees near their farm house, which would prove beneficial in earning money by selling the wood.

The Chief Minister has also asked the farmers to grow the Ratan Jyot Jatropha, because it can be grown quickly even on degraded and barren lands. This would be a useful bio-diesal plant, he said.

Earlier, the Chief Minister also inaugurated Krishi Science Centre and a Farm fair here.
