Briefing the media here, party spokesperson Prakash Javedkar said price rise cannot be stopped by controlling demand or through fiscal and monetary steps alone. He said imports have not increased with reduction in import duties nor exports declined by levying export duties. This paper exercise, he said, will not mitigate the crisis.
The party demanded the government to provide subsidised wheat, rice, pulses, oil and sugar through ration shops, check black marketing of cooking gas and fertilisers, end cement and steel cartels and have a relook at diesel and petrol price policy.
Claiming that its countrywide action against price rise was a success, he said the BJP national executive will hold its three-day meeting at Jaipur from May 31 to June 2 to assess the impact of the party action and chalk out strategy to put further pressure on the UPA government on the issue. The executive will also adopt an economic resolution and review outcome of Karnataka assembly elections, he added.
