New Delhi, May 2 (UNI) A day after the Union Cabinet gave its approval for setting up a National Police University, Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh today took up the issue with Home Minister Shivraj Patil, saying it be established in their state.
Mr Deshmukh, who came to the city to attend the funeral of veteran Gandhian Nirmala Deshpande, said if the Centre gave a positive response,the state could provide land and necessary facilities for it.
Punjab, too, has been pressing the Centre for locating the university at Phillaur, where Punjab Police Academy is already functioning.
Mr Deshmukh also met Congress president Sonia Gandhi, her political advisor Ahmed Patel and party treasurer Moti Lal Vora.
