Absconding member of Bangala Gang arrested

Amritsar, May 2 (UNI) Amritsar police has arrested a member of notorious Bangala gang who escaped from police custody along with seven other members of the gang from outside the premises of Ludhiana Central Jail in February.

According to an official release here today, a police team headed by SI Shive Darshan Singh and SI Gurpreet Singh nabbed the culprit, identified as Arjun alias Anju (35), a resident of Khori village in Kangra(HP) district, from the area of Police Station Sadar Amritsar. A case under Arms Act has been registered against the accused.

The eight members of Bangala Gang escaped from custody from Ludhiana while coming back after peshi from a Kapurthala Court on February 17.

The kigpin of the gang, Surti Ali alias Mental, was arrested by Amritsar Police within 24 hours of escape.

The gang is involved in at least 40 incidents of murder, robbery, dacoity and burgalary in various districts of Punjab including two cases in Amritsar.

''After his brief interrogation he will be handed over to Ludhiana police for further investigation, the police said.

Amritsar SSP Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh awarded commendation certificates along with cash reward to the officers who nabbed these absconders.
