UAE carriers to fly to Calicut

New Delhi, Apr 24 (UNI) The designated airlines of the UAE will now fly to Calicut with India and the United Arab Emirates revising air service operations, enhancing their aircraft capacity.

In an agreement signed here yesterday, the designated airlines of the two countries are entitled to operate up to 54,200 seats per week in each direction, an addition of 23,000 per week.

There will be 39,200 seats per week in each direction between points in India and Dubai with immediate effect.

From Winter 2008-09, the number of seats per week in each direction will be 48,200, from Summer 2009, the number will be 51,200 seats, and from Winter 2009-10, it will be 54,200 The Union Government had requested for the inclusion of a provision for change of the type of aircraft in Dubai and India, for both sides in the Air Services Agreement.

The UAE delegation agreed to revert through correspondence after internal consultations.

The UAE's request for grant of six additional points of call in India-- Amritsar, Mangalore, Pune, Tiruchirapalli, Coimbatore and Goa-- will also be considered by the Indian side and intimated to the UAE Government through correspondence.

With respect to the enhanced capacity agreed for operations by the designated airlines of UAE to and from Mumbai, the Indian side asked for ugrading aircraft on the existing frequencies to the extent possible instead of increasing the number of flights. UNI YJ PDT DB1834
