Two people injured in attack by armed assailants

Phagwara, Apr 24: Six unidentified armed assailants attacked and seriously wounded two people in Joshian Mohalla here late last night.

They decamped after snatching Rs 20,000 and a gold chain from the injured, identified as Pawan and Subhash, who were admitted in Phagwara civil hospital.

Police registered a case.

Phagwara, Nov 15: Two people allegedly committed suicide in different incidents here last night. A young woman, Rajni, allegedly consumed poison in her-in-laws house at Lamian mohalla last night. She was admitted in local civil hospital but could not survive. Deep depression was said to be the cause of suicide. In another incident, a young boy, identified as Soni, committed suicide by consuming celphas tablets at Narangshahpur mohalla last night. Domestic tension was said to be the cause of suicide, police.....

Punjab: Curfew relaxed, situation still tense

Jalandhar, May 26: District authorities allowed relaxation of Curfew that was imposed on parts of states on Monday, May 25 following violent protests over the death of a Sikh Guru in Vienna. Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Hoshiarpur and Phagwara towns will continue under curfew, the authorities informed. The curfew however, will be relaxed for two to four hours.Even though the curfew has been relaxed the situation across the state, especially the central part seems tense. Punjab, Haryana peaceful; trains back on track

Chandigarh, May 27: Peace is slowly returning to the state of Punjab and neighbouring Haryana after witnessing days of violent protests triggered off by the death of a Sikh preacher in Vienna. With the state getting back to normalcy, the curfew has been relaxed and the train services have been reportedly restored on Wednesday, May 27. Long-route buses have not resumed operations yet but is expected to be restored shortly.The worst hit region in the state was Jaladhar.....
