Kathmandu, Apr 24 (UNI) Nepal has beefed up security in the Everest region for the Olympic torch rally due to the fear of protest against China.
''Appropriate security measures have been taken to prevent any kind of protest activities on Nepalese territory in connection with China lighting the Olympic torch on Mt Everest,'' Ministry of Home Affairs said.
The Ministry said security has been tightened to control anti-China activities and urged the media to disseminate news about this without twisting it.
Attention was drawn towards the media disseminating fabricated and exaggerated news that security personnel were issued shoot at sight orders in the context of the government making appropriate arrangements to prevent unauthorised anti-China activities from taking place on Nepalese soil, it said in a statement.
