Sterlite bags Rs 2.96 Billion contract from PGCIL

Mumbai, Apr 24 (UNI) Sterlite Technologies Ltd has received three contracts valued at Rs 2.96 Billion (approx. US$ 74 Million) from Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL) for supply of Power Transmission Conductors.

The Company in a release here said the supplies against the contract would commence from August this year.

Over the past decade, Sterlite has established itself as the single largest supplier for PGCIL's pan-India requirements.

With the receipt of these new contracts, the Company has opened FY-09 with a total order book of Rs 10.2 Billion (USD 257 Million) for its telecom and power businesses.

Australia charges Indian doctor in UK bomb plot

Melbourne, July 14: Australian Federal Police said today they had charged a 27-year-old Indian doctor over his alleged links to the perpetrators of attempted car bomb attacks in Britain on June 29 and 30. ''He has been charged with providing support to a terrorist organisation,'' a police spokesman said. The charge against Mohamed Haneef carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in jail. He is due to appear in court in Brisbane later today......
