Robbery in trains, lecturer held

Kannur, Apr 24 (UNI) The special squad of the Railway police today arrested a lecturer in connection with robbing passengers in trains.

According to official sources, K B Jijesh (29), hailing from Annakkur in Kasaragod district was working as a visiting MBA lecturer in two professional colleges at Kasaragod and Palakkad.

The modus operandi of Jijesh, holding an M Phil degree and pursuing PhD, used to board AC three tier coaches of night trains through fake reservation ticket and robbed the passengers, particularly women, while they were in fast asleep.

Three digital cameras, a laptop and three mobiles phones were recovered from him, the sources added.

Cardiac care programme for TN school students

Chennai, Apr 24 (UNI) Come June three, the birthday of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, the State Government will launch an exclusive cardiac care programme for school students, Health Minister M R K Panneerselvam told the State Assembly today. Replying to the debate on the demand for grants for his department, he said the programme was aimed at detecting and treating heart problems of school students. Mah lifts ban on sale of Lakholi Dal (gram)

Mumbai, Apr 24 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh today announced in the state legislative Assembly, the government's decision to lift the ban on sale of Lakholi Dal (gram), which is the major produce in Vidarbha region. Making a statement on the issue, raised by Nana Patole (Cong), Mr Deshmukh said an in-principle decision has been taken on lifting the ban. State assures to look into cheer leaders issue

Mumbai, Apr 24 (UNI) The Maharashtra government has assured to look into allegations of opposition members that cheer leaders and their dancing at the venue of T20 matches were 'vulgar' and against Indian culture. Minister of state for home Siddhram Mhetre told the legislative council yesterday that the state would verify the tapes of the matches and take action accordingly.
