Indore, Apr 24 : Twenty artistes are toiling hard in Indore to create world's largest 'Rangoli' or colour pattern on a water body in the city.

Spread over an area of 17 acres, this artwork is being made on a pond with an aim to create a world record.

The technique involved in making the 'Rangoli' is around 5,500 years old and entails creating an outline of the design with rubber locks to prevent inter-mixing of colours and then sprinkling specially prepared colours in the pattern to create a masterpiece on water surface.

The artistes have been working day and night since April 1.

"I am attempting to break the existing record of a 'Rangoli' in Canada, made on an area of seven acres of land by 300 people. In my case, we are 20 people working on an area of 17 acres of a water body," said Rajkumar Chandan, an artiste.

The artistes have faced difficulties, but are still persevering with an aim to get themselves enlisted in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Till Wednesday, around eight acres of water body has already been covered with their floating art.

"It is the hard work put in by these artistes which has brought them so far. Prayers and wishes work, but at the end it is the hard work which will pay off," said Shabnam Qureshi, a visitor.

The existing world record is credited to Canada, where 300 people had created a 'Rangoli' on an area of seven acres on ground.

These artistes have already intimated the Guinness Book of World Records about their attempt and have filed an application with the almanac officials.
