House adjourned over entrance exam issue

Puducherry, Apr 24: The issue of entrance examination for admission to professional courses in Puducherry today rocked the Territorial Assembly, forcing Speaker R Radhakrishnan to adjourn the House for over an hour to discuss and take a decision on the issue.

DMK member S P Sivakumar, raising the issue during zero hour through a special mention, told the House that he had received an information that the Lt Governor had returned the file pertaining to abolishment of entrance examination without signing it and with a suggestion that it could be considered next year. If this was the case, then there was no use of discussions in the House and none of the developmental schemes could be implemented here.

Mr Sivakumar said the Opposition would not believe the assurances of the government any more. He demanded that the House be adjourned to discuss the issue.

Replying to the special mention, Chief Minister N Rangasamy said the Lt Governor had sought some clarifications on the modalities to be adopted in abolishing the entrance examination and suggested that it could be considered next year.

However, the region-wise reservation was there and this would be apprised to the Lt Governor through the education department and the administration would get the file signed, he added.
