Police official sentenced to 5 yr RI in bribery case

Perambalur, Apr 24: A local court here convicted a police official and sentenced him to five years rigorous imprisonment yesterday for demanding and receiving bribe from a person for dropping action against the latter in a case.

Perambalur Chief Judicial Magistrate Ramathilagam also imposed a fine of Rs 8,000 on P A Palanimuthu, who was serving as the Sub-Inspector of Police of Vikkiramangalam Police Station in Ariyalur district.

The Prosecution submitted that G Ravi of Gunamangalam and Kumar of Kunjuveli had lodged complaints against each other over an altercation between the two in Vikramangalam police station.

While conducting an enquiry, the Sub Inspector demanded Rs 2,000 from Ravi for not taking action against him on the complaint lodged by Kumar.

Following a complaint by Ravi, sleuths of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Tiruchirapalli unit, arrested the Sub-Inspector.

Madurai, Oct 17:Sleuths of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) arrested a senior police official on graft charges here late last night.
