Patient's death during Olympic torch relay jam agitates Jaya

New Delhi, Apr 23 (UNI) Giving vent to the city' sufferings due to the traffic jam on the day of Olympic torch relay that prevented medical aid from reaching a heart patient, Samajwadi Party Member Jaya Bachchan today made a forceful plea to the Government in the Rajya Sabha not to let a similar situation recur.

She narrated how an officer of the National Informatics Centre, who had flown in from Chennai that day, died of a heart attack as his ambulance could not reach hospital due to the traffic gridlock caused by massive traffic restrictions put in place by the authorities to ensure peaceful passage to the flame.

Raising the issue in the special mention category, Ms Bachchan said had the medical aid been given at the airport itself or the ambulance could reach hospital in time, a precious life would have been saved.

''It would be better if events like the Olympic torch run were held in a stadium,'' she said.

Ms Bachchan urged the Urban Development Ministry and the Civil Aviation Ministry to come out with some arrangements for emergency medical aid in such situations.
