Pallam Raju asks NCC cadets to bring about social uplift

New Delhi, Apr 24 (UNI) Minister of State for Defence M M Pallam Raju today called upon the NCC cadets to involve in social activities and bring about social uplift in the country.

Addressing the cadets at the National Integration Camp here, Dr Pallam Raju asked instructors and officers of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) to encourage school and college students to participate in social welfare activities at least once during their stint in the Corps.

NCC Director General Lt Gen Prakash S Chaudhary later pointed out that the cadets enthusiastically volunteer for such camps, including blood donation, tree plantation and lending a helping hand to Old Age Homes.

Commending the turnout of the cadets and a cultural programme presented on the occasion, Dr Pallam Raju said he was amazed by the range and diversity of talent on display at the camp.

The Minister, an Electronics and Communications Engineer and an IT entrepreneur, underlined the need for the young children and youth, especially from the remote and inaccessible villages, to adapt to the new age technology tools such as the computer and the internet which, he termed, would be their ''window of opportunity'' to the world.

Dr Pallam Raju later presented prizes to the cadets for extra- curricular activities.

About 850 cadets, including more than 600 from Jammu and Kashmir, are participating in the 12-day camp.

For a large number of cadets from remote and inaccessible areas of Baramulla, Poonch and Bhaderwah districts, it was their first opportunity to travel outside the state and interact with children from the rest of the country.
