Opposition stages walkout on farmers loan waiver

Mumbai, Apr 24 (UNI) Entire Opposition today staged a walkout in the Maharashtra legislative council, protesting against 'unsatisfactory' reply of cooperation minister Dr Patangrao Kadam about the loan waiver announced for farmers.

Replying to the discussion on the issue, he said the government was making all efforts for helping farmers.

He said the Central government so far has not given any written direction on the loan waiver of Rs 60,000 crore and added that after receiving those orders, the state government would decide about its further steps.

However, the Opposition demanded that farmers, who have more than five acres of land, should also be given some incentives.

Mah lifts ban on sale of Lakholi Dal (gram)

Mumbai, Apr 24 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh today announced in the state legislative Assembly, the government's decision to lift the ban on sale of Lakholi Dal (gram), which is the major produce in Vidarbha region. Making a statement on the issue, raised by Nana Patole (Cong), Mr Deshmukh said an in-principle decision has been taken on lifting the ban. State assures to look into cheer leaders issue

Mumbai, Apr 24 (UNI) The Maharashtra government has assured to look into allegations of opposition members that cheer leaders and their dancing at the venue of T20 matches were 'vulgar' and against Indian culture. Ordinance to regulate money lending soon: Kadam

Mumbai, Apr 24 (UNI) Maharashtra cooperation Minister Dr Patangrao Kadam today said the state government would soon introduce an ordinance to regulate money-lending activity. Replying to a query raised by Leader of the Opposition Pandurang Phundkar and others in the state Legislative Council, he said the ordinance, once approved, would ensure smooth transfer of the land from money lenders to the original owners.
