Musharraf's man retained as A-G for writing crucial letter in Zardari's Swiss case

Islamabad, Apr 24 : The PPP has reportedly told the PML-N that Attorney General Malik Muhammad Qayyum, who was appointed by President Pervez Musharraf, was simply a "guest actor" and his services were retained only to let him draft a letter regarding PPP Chairman Asif Ali Zardari's last case pending in a Swiss court.

It is learnt that Qayyum had worked a lot on a case against Zardari in a Swiss court and he still have to draft an important letter in view of his experience.

"After the Government of Pakistan moves this letter to the Swiss court, the very last case in any foreign country against the PPP co-chairman will stand cleared. We have told the PML-N leadership that the attorney general is just completing some assignments before he is sent home," The News quoted a top PPP leader as saying.

The PML-N had asked the PPP as to why the "Musharraf man" was serving in the top law office of the country that was directly involved in the implementation of the Murree accord, which includes an important clause on judges' restoration.

The PPP leader confirmed they had assured the top PML-N leadership that Malik Qayyum was cleaning up the mess he had created on the orders of Musharraf during the last one year, which could not be cleared by anyone else.

Malik Qayyum had told this correspondent a few days back that the Government of Pakistan had sent a letter to the Swiss government but sources close to the AG confirmed on Tuesday that he still had to write that important letter.

"Malik Qayyum has also told us that we (coalition) are going to abolish the 58-2(b) and clip other powers vested in the Presidency, and no one other than him could take this amendment to the Presidency for getting the final signatures of the President. We were stunned that the man appointed by Musharraf is assuring us his loyalty and that he would work against his ex-boss," said the PPP leader.
