London Mayor admits conning UK Govt. for Olympic bid



London, Apr.24 : London Mayor Ken Livingstone has admitted that he trapped the Gordon Brown Government into bidding for the Olympics to attract funds for developing the city's dilapidated East End area.

"I didn't bid for the Olympics because I wanted three weeks of sport. I bid for the Olympics because it's the only way to get the billions of pounds out of the Government to develop the East End. It's exactly how I played it to ensnare the Government to put money into an area it has neglected for 30 years," The Mirror quoted Livingstone, as saying.

The hosting of the Olympic Games will cost the British exchequer at least 9.3 billion pounds to stage.

Eriksson to turn on charm for wine-lover Fergie

LONDON, Aug 17 (Reuters) Sven-Goran Eriksson and Alex Ferguson are set to share an 800 dollar bottle of wine after Sunday's Manchester derby despite clashing in the past. United manager Ferguson had regular run-ins with Eriksson when the Swede was England manager, particularly over releasing his players for friendly internationals.
