India, US hold meeting on crucial global issues

New Delhi, Apr 24 (UNI) India and the United States today agreed to strengthen cooperation in a wide spectrum of issues including climate change and food security.

The discussions, held at the Sixth Meeting of the Indo-US Global Issues Forum, also focussed on other issues of common concern like promotion of democracy and human rights, controlling avian flu and mitigating a future pandemic, accelerating polio eradication programmes, cooperation in disaster management, protecting endangered wildlife and promoting science and technology cooperation.

The Indian side at the day long talks was led by Foreign Secretary while the US delegation was headed by Under Secretary of State for Global Affairs, Paula J Dobriansky, the US embassy here said.

The Forum, which convenes annually and alternates between India and the US, was first held here in October 2002.

BSNL to add 17 mln GSM, 2 mln CDMA subscribers by fiscal-end

New Delhi, Apr 24 (UNI) State-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd today said it expects to add 17 million GSM subscribers and two million CDMA subscribers by the end of this fiscal.
