Heat wave condition continues in Gangetic West Bengal

Kolkata, Apr 24 (UNI) Heat wave conditions continued in five districts of Gangetic West Bengal with Bankura recording the maximum temperature of 44.5 degrees Celsius today.

Alipore Met office Director Dr G C Debnath said, however, there will be no significant change in weather conditions throughout the state. Gangetic West Bengal will be generally dry, but temperatures will gradually fall in the next two days, he added. However, no rainfall will occur in the plains.

He said heat wave conditions will persist in Bankura, Birbhum, Bardhaman, Purulia and West Midnapore.

Meanwhile, the Sub-Himalayan region, specially Cooch Behar, Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri will experience slight rainfall in some areas while other areas might experience heavy squalls and thundershowers. However, Malda, North and South Dinajpur of the region will remain dry.

Kolkatans also experienced high temperature with the maximum temperature ranging between 38.9 to 39.6 degrees Celsius, which is three to four degrees above normal in several areas of the city.

Purulia recorded a maximum temperature of 44.2 degrees Celsius, while Bardhaman and Birbhum recorded 40 degrees Celsius, and West Midnapore 39.2.

Meanwhile, in the Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Cooch Behar recorded a maximum of 32 and Jalpaiguri 33 degrees Celsius. However, there was slight rainfall in these areas.

Maximum temperature in the next 24 hours will be hovering around 38 degrees Celsius, Met officials said and added that it might reduce to 37 degress in the following days.
