Five live fuses recovered in south Kashmir

Srinagar, Apr 24 (UNI) Panic gripped a village in South Kashmir when five live fuses were found by local residents, official sources said.

They said residents of Pahloo in the Anantnag district found five live fuses of Khandroo episode, which were lying in the village.

People in the area were immediately shifted to safer places and Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was informed about the presence of fuses.

Later, the BDS defused the fuses without causing any damage.

People living in more than a dozen villages near Khandroo are still living in fear because of presence of unexploded shells and fuses.

Thousands of unexploded shells and fuses were found in these villages after the devastating fire in the Field Ordinance Depot at Khandroo, in which about 20 people, most of them army firefighters, were killed in August last year. Later the shells were defused by BDS who were airlifted from different parts of the country. However, people still find fuses and other shells in these areas.
