Fire in Khaitan factory's godown in HP

Nahan, Apr 24 (UNI) A devastating fire broke out in the Khaitan factory's godown in Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh, destroying property worth around Rs five crore.

However, no loss of life was reported in the incident, police and fire brigade sources said today.

The fire in the Khaitan's Electricals godown in Poanta Sahib area of the district caught early yesterday and continued throughout the day before being extinguished in the evening by fire personnel, requisitioned from here.

The fire caused a preliminary loss of about Rs 5.5 crore as raw material for exhaust fans, CFL bulbs and table fans along with finished goods were gutted. This is the second fire incident in the same unit within a year.

The cause of the fire, however, not known yet but case had been registered and investigations were on, the sources said.

Company's proprietor M S Chaudhary dubbed the losses as huge as besides storing raw and finished goods, the company was manufacturing a few other goods in the godown.

Tear gassing and strike cripples life

Baramulla, Apr 24: Police fired teargas shells to disperse a mob, protesting the killing of two Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) commanders in the town where general strike crippled life for the second consecutive day today. Police fired dozens of teargas shells and resorted to lathi charge to disperse the demonstrators. Scores of people were injured in the police action. Shops and business establishments in the town and adjourning areas remainded closed and traffic was off the road. Yesterday security forces killed two HM.....

No plans to take over Vivekanandar Illam: MK

Chennai, Apr 24: Putting an end to speculations about its shifting, the Tamil Nadu Government today said status quo will be maintained with regard to the Vivekanandar Illam, under the supervision of the Ramakrishna Mutt in the city. Replying to a special call attention motion given notice of by members of various political parties, following reports that the government was planning to take over the heritage building to set up a Classical Tamil Centre, Mr Karunanidhi said there was no proposal.....
