Water harvesting scheme to be introduced in 205 schools

New Delhi, Apr 22 (UNI) The Delhi Government will introduce water harvesting scheme in 205 schools of the city for which an amount of Rs 40 crore has been earmarked.

Exhorting people to make rational use of natural resources to ensure better future, Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit also stressed the need to make use of CFL bulbs to go for large-scale energy saving.

She said around five lakh CFL bulbs have been sold in the capital and emphasised that their use will result in less electricity bill.

She said 35 schools have been provided the Solar Water Heater System and soon this would be installed in another 50 schools.

Ms Dikshit was addressing eco-club members from 200 schools of the capital at a workshop organised in connection with Earth Day celebrations at the Delhi Secretariat. Urging children to function as environment-ambassadors, she asked them to plant seven saplings and take care of them as their family member.

Eco-clubs have been established in 1900 schools in Delhi. Another 200 schools will also set up such clubs.

Calling for use of recycled paper, she said this practice could help in saving around 40,000 trees a year and underlined the need of making mandatory use of recycled papers in business houses and offices.

As part of efforts to curb air pollution, Ms Dikshit said her Government has decided to give 29.5 per cent relief on purchase of battery-operated vehicles.
