Sex education for students: Vasant Purke

Mumbai, Apr 22 (UNI) Maharashtra Education Minister Vasant Purke today announced in the Legislative Council that sex education will be introduced in the state for ninth and tenth class students from the next academic year.

Replying to a marathon debate, Mr Purke said a provision will also be made in the Right to Education Bill to penalise parents, who deprive their children of primary education and the punishment may even include imprisonment.

Government will also conduct education audit, where official funds for various education schemes will be given, he said.

Government was contemplating to conduct board exams for class seven students, on the lines of class ten exams, he said, adding they would provide computers to 2,000 aided schools every year.

Model code of conduct for CBSE and ICSE schools have been prepared and the schools will have to file affidavits to abide by the government norms, the minister said.

He said 20 per cent of the seats in districts will be reserved for English educated teachers.
