Peer pressure pushing kids to depression, anxiety, anorexia

London, Apr 22 : Kids today are being forced by peer pressure to grow up quickly that they have started experiencing a gamut of disorders ranging from depression to anxiety to anorexia.

A report, headed by Prof Stephen Scott of the Institute of Psychiatry at King's College London, is the fifth in a series of six reports by the Children's Society into the state of childhood.

According to it, kids are in such a haste to look fashionable and attractive, that they are turning to binge drinking and drugs, becoming increasingly prone to such mental disorders.

A Children's Society spokesman said that this gave a "snapshot" of views from experts about the mental and physical health of children.

"From our own services we know that support must be in place," The Telegraph quoted Ross Hendry, head of public policy at the National Children's Home, as saying.

He added: "Not just the child, but the whole family, must be at the centre of this support to truly tackle the issues at stake."
