Paes-Hanley cruise into second round

Monaco, Apr 22: India's Leander Paes and his Australian partner Paul Hanley moved into the second round of the Monte Carlo Masters tournament here.

The Indo-Australian duo defeated Argentine pair of David Nalbandian and Sebastian Prieto 6-4, 6-3 in the opening round last night. Unseeded Paes and Hanley will next meet the second seeded Israeli pair of Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram. The other Indian tennis star, Mahesh Bhupathi and his partner Mark Knowles of Bahamas got a bye in the first round of the doubles event.

The Indo-Bahamian duo, seeded fourth in the tournament, will start their quest for a third ATP doubles title this season against the winners of the match between the Brazilian combination of Marcelo Melo and Andre and French-Serbian pair of Richard Gasquet and Janko Tipsarevic in the second round.

The eighth seeded Indo-American pair squandered a set advantage to go down 2-6, 6-3, 6-4, courtesy an erratic service and a number of unforced errors. The duo committed 17 unforced errors.....

London, July 6 : Leander Paes and Meghann Shaughnessy of USA notched up an easy 6-0, 6-0 victory over Jaroslav Levinsky and Renata Voracova of Czecch Replubic to sail into Wimbledon mixed doubles pre-quaterfinals here. The Indo-US duo will now meet 12th seeded Todd Perry of Australia and Chia-Jung Chuang of Chinese Taipei for a place in last eight. Eighth seeded Paes and Shaughnessy took just 35 minutes to demolish their unseeded opponents......

New York, Aug 31: Mahesh Bhupathi and Nenad Zimonjic of Serbia cruised into the second round of the US Open, while his estranged partner Leander Paes and Martim Damm duo made a shocking exit in the opening round. Bhupathi-Zimonjic defeated unseeded Russian combo of Igor Kunitsyn and Dmitry Tursunov 6-3, 7-5 in a match that lasted little more than one hour.
