Nepal Congress blames Maoists youth wing for defeat

Kathmandu, Apr 21 : Nearly 22 district units of Nepali Congress have blamed the terror unleashed by the Communist Party of Nepal-Maoists' Young Communist League (YCL) for the party's rout in the Constituent Assembly polls.

The party's district units have sent their report to its Central Working Committee, claiming that the party leaders have distanced themselves from locals because of the Maoist threat, which was equally responsible for the party's defeat.

"Most of them have named YCL intimidation till election day as the major cause for the party's defeat," said NC's Chief Secretary Shobhakar Parajuli.

"They have claimed that party cadres could not stay in contact with people because of the Maoist attacks on NC cadres during the insurgency and even after the Comprehensive Peace Accord was signed," Parajuli said.

Dhankuta district president of the party, Manohar Narayan Shrestha said: "Due to feeble security, YCL cadres terrorized our cadres and sympathizers in villages. When our candidates are insecure due to YCL terror, how can we expect safety of voters?"

According to Kantipur Report, the party's Central Working Committee (CWC) informal meeting on April 17 had asked all its district units to submit their reports on CA polls by Tuesday.

After the party's dismal show in the recently-concluded CA election results, Dolakha district committee was dissolved on Sunday.

"We recommended action as many party cadres were found to be actively involved against the party's candidates," said defeated candidate Tara Bahadur Koirala.

Similarly, the district committee in Okhaldhunga also recommended action against its senior leader and oldest CWC member Bal Bahadur Rai and four other district level leaders.

Demanding action against Rai and others, 48 members of the district committee stated that Rai actively took part in the poll campaign of his relative, Gyanendra Rumdali, an independent candidate, against the party's policy.
