Navy personnel receive degree in aeronautical engineering

Kochi, Apr 22 (UNI) Forty-one navy officers and sailors received their degrees and diplomas in aeronautics at the third convocation ceremony of the Naval Institute of Aeronautical Technology (NIAT) here today.

Speaking on the occasion, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Southern Naval Command Vice-Admiral Sunil K Damle urged the graduates to gainfully apply the knowledge in maintanance of advanced platforms with high-end systems being operated by the Navy.

He also emphasised the need for a close and formal association with reputed institutions by the various professional schools under the Southern Naval command to synergise the training efforts and ensure a quality output.

Based on a MoU between CUSAT and NIAT, recognising the Institute as the 'Centre for Aeronautical Science and Technology', post-graduate programmes run by NIAT had been accepted for M Tech (Aeronautics) while other courses were accepted for the award of degree, diploma and advanced diploma in aeronautics, for sailors, depending on the entry level.

CUSAT Vice Chancellor Gangan Prathap said the present-day warfare was focused on high-tech and science and tehchnology was the extension of military arm in ensuring the country's security and stability.

Dr Prathap further emphasised that the ratio of soldier to scientist in India, which was currently about 10:1, needs to be enhanced to build up the intellectual capital to meet the objective.

NIAT conducts about 40 officers courses and 88 sailors' courses and were training about 1200 personnel annually, a release said here.

Change in group not to deter Tehran's policy: Iran

Dubai, Dec 12: Iran has said withdrawal of a key official heading the negotiating group on Iran-India gas pipeline project would not mean any change in Tehran's policy towards gas supplies to the Indian subcontinent.
