Mizo computer engineers demends IIIT in Mizoram

Aizawl, Apr 22 (UNI) The Mizoram Computer Science and Engineers Association (MISCEA) today urged Chief Minister Zoramthanga to take steps towards establishment of Indian Institute of Information Technology in the state.

The engineers' association, in a memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister, expressed its disappointment over the Centre's decision not to set up any IIIT in the state.

The Centre has approved the plan to set up eight IITs, seven IIMs, five IISERs and 20 IIITs in the country.

The MICSEA also pointed out that the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, the sole provider of internet connectivity in the state, has not been able to meet the people's demand, thereby causing immense problems and urged the state government to take steps so that the Power Grid Corporation of India connects the state with optical fibre cables (OFC).

Highlighting the frequent problems faced in banking and online air ticket booking due to internet failures, MICSEA demanded the Chief Minister to set up a committee to look into the matter.

It also demanded that all the state government departments be computerised under the Centre's e-government plan.

The association also demanded posting of full-time IT officers of a gazette status.
