Minority blame Congress, AUDF for vote bank

Guwahati, Apr 22(UNI) The Minority Legal Right Protection Committee (MLRPC), Assam today blamed both Congress and the Assam United Democratic Front(AUDF) for using the minorities as 'vote bank'.

Addressing a press conference here, MLPRC Working President Ali Akbar Miyan, a former MLA, said if the Congress was giving 'false' promise of minority development, the AUDF has 'completely failed' to address the problems of the minorities.

Mr. Miyan said even the detailed report of Assam Agitation was never published, hiding the facts about the exact number of casualties. He regretted that even 23 years after the end of that violent agitation, the state government never bothered to make it available.

Mr. Miyan and general secretary Moon Choudhury demanded release of the detailed list of those who suffered during the agtation and compensation worth Rs 2 lakh. They also demanded release of the Tewary Commission report.

Enact legislation to oversee sports bodies: MPs

New Delhi, Apr 22 (UNI) Agitated over the Indian Hockey Federation's (IHF) secretary general Jothikumaran having been caught on camera accepting bribe, members in both the Houses of Parliament today demanded that the government should enact legislation to bring the sports bodies under its preview to stamp out corruption.
