Mercury ''touches'' 37.6 degrees in Jammu

Jammu, Apr 22 (UNI) The Winter Capital of Jammu and Kashmir was under the cover of scorching heat when the mercury level today touched 37.6 degress Celsius, official sources here said.

However, despite some decline in the temperature after fresh snowfall on the upper reaches of Doda and Kishtwar districts and a spell of rainfall in the Jammu region last week, the mercury level has started rising upwards and it touched 37.6 degrees Celsius today, official source told UNI.

''The temperature may cross 40 degree Celsius in another few days and the Jammu region would start observing the hot days prior to the beginning of absolute summer season later,'' an official spokesman of MET section said.

Meanwhile yesterday the temperature level here touched 36.5 degree Celsius and today it witnessed an elevation of one degree thus affecting the normal life.

AP FM lauds PC on annual plan sanction for State

Hyderabad, Apr 22 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Finance Minister(FM) K Rosaiah today lauded the Planning Commission(PC) for approving Rs 44,000 crore annual plan for the State for 2008-09. Talking to newspersons here, he said the PC had approved the plan-size, based on the performance of the government. Normally, the PC, after verifying the plan-size, would reduce the amount, but in Andhra Pradesh's case, the Commission had rounded it off to Rs 44,000 crore against Rs 43,191.....

Godavari water to twin cities for drinking purpose: Minister

Hyderabad, Apr 22 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Major Irrigation Minister P Laxmaiah today said Godavari river water would be lifted to twin- cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad to provide drinking water by taking up a lift project at Kantalapalli. Talking to newspersons here, Mr Laxmaiah said the Government was committed to provide Godavari water to the twin cities for drinking purpose. Theft in MP's house in Delhi, valuables stolen

New Delhi, Apr 22 (UNI) A Member of Parliament today claimed that burglars had broken into her house here while she was away in Tamil Nadu. M S K Bhavani Rajenthiran of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) told the Lok Sabha during a discussion on Demands for Grants for Defence that the burglars had broken into her house here and decamped with some valuables.
